INVESTIGATIONS into a major drugs seizure at a sweet factory in the region will continue today.
Suspicious staff at Nestle's plant in York found 25kg of herbal cannabis - said to have a street value of £75,000 - after they opened a package from abroad.
Customs officers, who were called to the plant together with North Yorkshire Police, said that it was one of the biggest finds ever made in the city.
The package was delivered to the factory by a courier company last Wednesday.
It was sent from overseas and had been addressed to Nestle.
A Customs spokesman said: "Nobody at Nestle was involved and the company acted responsibly by calling us in as soon as they found something which should not have been there."
He added: "Compared to finds elsewhere this isn't that big, but we do not get a lot of seizures of cannabis in York so this is significant."
The incident came as a shock to Nestle staff, but a company spokeswoman said they had been extra vigilant in checking foreign parcels since the terrorist attacks on America, in September.
