AN RAF helicopter and a lifeboat were scrambled at the weekend when fire broke out in the engine room of a fishing vessel.
Crew members took refuge in the wheelhouse, as the Wayfarer was towed 22 miles to the River Tyne, where firefighters dealt with the blaze.
The Humber Coastguard had told the crew to don lifejackets, and prepare a liferaft, while a helicopter from RAF Boulmer, Northumberland, prepared to airlift if the situation worsened.
The fire broke out at about 1pm on Saturday.
