A FUNERAL service will be held on Friday for a woman killed in a road accident which precipitated the birth of her grandson.

Widow Kay Gillespie, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, who was 64, was visiting her daughter, Lesley Droy, at her home in Scotland to help during the final stages of her pregnancy.

Mrs Droy was at the wheel of her car when it was hit head-on by another vehicle on October 29.

Mrs Gillespie was seriously injured in the collision and the driver of the other car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mrs Droy needed emergency surgery, during which her son, Scott, was born.

Mrs Gillespie died of her injuries, although her daughter and her baby have since been allowed home.

Mrs Gillespie - who also leaves daughters Janie and Hilary as well as her son, Scott - will be remembered at a service at Richmond Methodist Church at noon on Friday, which will be followed by cremation
