DETECTIVES hunting the killer of a man who was found lying on a country road began a mass DNA testing programme yesterday.

Police have asked for all men over the age of 14 in two neighbouring villages to provide DNA samples as they try to close the net on the killer of 58-year-old David William-son.

Mr Williamson was struck on the back of the head as he walked home from a party at a pub in Huby, near Easingwold, North Yorkshire, on March 25. He died later in Leeds General Infirmary.

Forensic examinations have given police a DNA profile which they believe to be that of the killer, but the investigation has failed to find a match.

Now, 800 men from Huby and Sutton-on-the-Forest are being asked to give their genetic fingerprints to police.

Testing started in Huby Sports and Social Club yesterday and ends on Sunday. Residents of Sutton-on-the-Forest will give samples from next Monday until Sunday, December 2.

Everyone attending is asked to take two documents confirming their identity
