AN INFANT school is celebrating after receiving a glowing report.

Harrowgate Hill Infant School was described by inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education as a good school, well managed, where teachers are committed and pupils can develop good attitudes and learn effectively.

The report highlighted the school's work in science. Standards are above the level expected for pupils in year two.

Inspectors said pupils did well, particularly in investigative work.

As well as excelling in science, the school was praised for high standards in art, design and music, which are above those expected for seven-year-olds.

The inspectors also commented on the strong leadership at the school, the headteacher's efforts to raise standards and how well staff worked as a team. Parents' positive views of the school were also highlighted.

Headteacher Margaret Cunningham said: "Parents speak very highly of the school and their views are even better than those noted at the time of the last inspection.

"They are pleased with virtually everything the school does. In particular, parents like the way staff do whatever they can to help each individual child, both academically and personally."
