THE Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Business Link (Tyne and Wear) have turned to a former apprentice at the National Glass Centre to design and produce prizes for an upcoming Investors in People awards night.
Colin Brown, 20, from Sunderland, was placed with the National Glass Centre under a Modern Apprenticeship programme.
As part of his four-year course he was introduced to a range of practical skills involved with the design and manufacture of glass products.
Since completing his Modern Apprenticeship he has secured a permanent position in the design studio of the National Glass Centre.
He said: "Having left school at 16, the Modern Apprenticeship worked perfectly for me and I have enjoyed my time at the National Glass Centre.
"I was delighted to be asked to make the awards for the Investors in People event, especially as it gives me the chance to show off my skills that I have learnt."
Chris Roberts, executive director of the LSC in Tyne and Wear, added: "The fact that we have chosen Colin to create the awards is a reflection of the ideals of the awards themselves.
"Each person has their own special skills and with the right training and support can prove to be a tremendous asset to a company. Colin is further proof of the excellence of the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, with top quality training leading to permanent employment."
The Investors in People Outstanding Practice Awards are in their second year. The presentation is on Thursday, December 6, at the Newcastle Marriot Hotel, Gosforth Park
