WORK on the first phase of a play area in Ferryhill Station is nearing completion.
Contractors are putting the finishing touches to landscaping work at the Surtees play area.
The first phase of the project has cost about £30,000, with most of the money being provided by Ferryhill Town Council and the Sure Start initiative.
Jamie Corrigan, executive officer for the council, said: "Phase one is almost complete and the town council is in the process of looking for further funds to implement the rest of the requests from the local residents. Eventually there is going to be a basketball court, five-a-side, art features, a nature garden, play area for children and toddlers and a climbing wall."
