A NORTH-EAST school has been named and shamed on the Internet for failing to submit its accounts to the Charity Commission for scrutiny.
Gateshead Jewish School was one of four charitable causes to be placed in the commission's website.
And it could face prosecution, unless it complies with the requirements to file its accounts for 1999 and 2000.
Charity Commission operations director Simon Gillespie said last night: "Submitting annual accounts and returns is central to achieving accountability and the commission is committed to taking strong action to ensure charities fulfil this basic requirement.
"The commission is committed to taking firm action to ensure charities fulfil their obligation.
"We will liaise with the police where necessary and as a last resort. The first successful prosecution took place in October this year."
The school had an income of £400,000 and equal expenditure in 1998 - the last year accounts were filed with the Charity Commission.
Despite repeated efforts since Tuesday to contact the school for comment, calls have been unanswered.
