POLICE were last night questioning two young men and a teenage girl over a town centre fight in which a refugee was critically injured.
The men, aged 20 and 18, and the 17-year-old girl, all from Middlesbrough, were said to be helping police with their inquiries into an alleged assault on a 30-year-old Kosovan.
He received serious head injuries at the Royal Exchange pub, in Middlesbrough, in the early hours of Tuesday, during a fight which began inside the pub and spilled out into the street.
Another Kosovan, in his twenties, suffered minor facial injuries, and both were detained in Middlesbrough General Hospital.
Detective Superintendent Tony Hutchinson said the fight broke out following an argument with a female. He stressed that it was not racially motivated.
Det Supt Hutchinson said: "We are still anxious to speak to people who witnessed the fights inside and outside."
