YOUNG people have been putting the finishing touches to Japanese lanterns in preparation for Darlington's annual lantern parade.
More than 300 children from six primary schools have been making lanterns for tonight's parade.
The theme this year is Japan, and lanterns have been created in the shape of dragons, Sumo wrestlers and flowers.
Artists from Bravura Arts have been working with the youngsters and a group of Millennium Volunteers.
The parade starts at 6.30pm at Darlington Arts Centre and finishes in the Market Square with a fireworks display at 7.30pm.
To make the lanterns, 300 bamboo canes, six litres of glue, 20 rolls of adhesive tape, 300 night lights and bundles of flex have been used.
The parade is organised by Darlington Borough Council, sponsored by Taylor Woodrow and Cleveland Bridge UK, and supported by The Northern Echo and Darlington radio station Alpha 103.2 FM.
