THE Millennium Dome may be doomed, but a Thirsk business is doing very well with its own domes.
Power Plastics, in Station Road, Thirsk, has teamed up with designer, Mr John Moon, to provide its own domes - the type of geometric structure most famously seen in Disney's Epcot Centre.
Mr Moon has been involved in planning and research on geodesic domes since the early 70s.
The framework is built from lightweight aluminium tubing with a cast-aluminium "hub" where the geometric shapes of the structure join.
Power Plastics, with its computer-controlled cutting machinery and plastics welding expertise, provides the full waterproof cover for the dome.
Domes can be any colour, printed with any design including logos and corporate identities and can even incorporate window panels. With no guy ropes outside or poles or struts inside, all the space is usable and gives uninterrupted access and sightlines from every angle.
A Power Plastics spokesman said: "The dome can provide a practical space for use at festivals, promotional events or theme parks, for emergency shelter, or as a semi-permanent site for travelling entertainment groups or roadshows."
