The club's mini-athletes had chance to shine at the Minor Athletes Indoor Meeting held at
Monkton Stadium Jarrow on Sunday, November 11.
Scott Thornton who is only eight years old competed for the first time for the club and had an
excellent debut, Scott finished third in the heats of the: Under 9s - 60m in a time of 10.45 and in
the heats of the 300m he led from start to finish to win in a time of 1:05:8, in the final he had an
even better run to take the gold medal in 1:05:5.
Chris Appleby finished third in the heats of 60m in a time of 11.96 and fourth in the 3 00m with a
time of 1:19:4, in the Under 10 Girls Jessie Hodgson was second in the heats of 60m in 10.05 and
third in 300m in a time of 1:58:9
Faith Richmond also in the Under 10 girls finished fourth in the 60m in 11.7 and in the 300m
Faith finished in third in a time of 2:14:8.
In the Under-11 Girls Amy Bunning finished second in the 60m in 9.52 which qualified her for the
final where she finished third in 9.7 and won the bronze medal, Natasha Heslop in the same age
group finished third in the heats of the 60m in a time of 10.33 and Camilla Raine finished runner
up in the heats of the 60m in a time of 10.12, in the Under 11 Girls 600m Camilla finished third in
the heats in time of 2:43:6. Amy Bunning and Natasha Heslop also competed in the heats of
Under-11 Girls 600m, Amy won her heat in fine style in 2:25:8 and Natasha also reached the final
when she finished second in 2.34. In the final Amy won the bronze medal in a time of 2:25:6 and
Natasha won the fourth place medal in a time of 2:40:3.
The day previous at the English Cross Country Association National Relays held at Berry Hill Park
Mansfield there was some good performances from the Under-15 and 13 Boys teams, first leg
runner for Under-15s was Matthew Lomax who had a brilliant run to finished in third place just eleven
seconds behind the leader M Mashford of Aldershott & Farnham AC, Matthew's time was 6.36.
Second leg runner was Paul Smith who also gave a good performance to finish in a time of 7.36 in
26th position first back was A Friend in 6.29 also of Aldershott, finally leg runner was Jalal
Thompson who showed some great improvement to finish in 29th position in 7.24. L. Cox brought
the Aldershott team home to win the trophy.
In the Under-13 event there was slight hopes of a medal
from the Shildon camp, first leg runner was Anthony Brown who had shown some good form
recently came home in 24th position in 7.48, the leader was G Allott of Staffordshire Moorlands
AC, second leg runner was Khafil Thompson younger brother of Jalal who had a excellent run to
pull ten places back to 14th place in a time of 7.34 the leader was A Bosworth of Royal Sutton
Coldfield AC, finally leg runner was Andrew Thompson who has also shown good form recently,
Andrew had a fantastic run to pull seven places back but unfortunately the finish line came too soon and the Shildon team had to settle for seventh position, Andrew time was 7.20 overall winners were Royal Sutton Coldfield AC.
The club's middle distance group have resume their training sessions at the Stadium 2000, which run
in two Cross Country Leagues during the winter months, the club caters for age groups from eight years upwards anyone is welcome to come and try with no obligation to join, the clubs sprint section have
also resumed training they compete at the Indoor Meetings throughout the winter months.
