One teenager was knocked unconscious and another smashed in the face with a brick during a savage street attack at the weekend.
The teenage boys were part of a group of youths who were attacked and mugged by a larger gang of thugs.
The group, made up of seven or eight youths, were set upon as they walked along Fenham Hall Drive, towards the junction of Convent Road, in Fenham, Newcastle, on Friday evening.
When approached by the larger group of about ten youths, they were asked to hand over what cash they had.
But during the scuffle that followed two 17-year-old boys were badly injured by the bigger gang.
One was knocked unconscious and the other was hit with a house brick, suffering facial injuries which required treatment at Newcastle General Hospital.
Police believe the motive behind the attack was robbery because the larger gang made off with cash, a watch and a coat.
Officers want to speak to a woman who came to the aid of the unconscious youngster, and anyone who was in the busy residential area at the time. Anyone with information on the attack that was carried out between 6.30 and 6.45pm should contact Newcastle West CID on 0191 2146555, extension 62364.
