THE musical world of the novelist Jane Austen will be revealed in Durham this week.
Chamber ensemble Concert Royal is bringing Jane Austen's Musical England to the dli, Durham, tomorrow, at 1pm.
Although best known for her writing, Jane Austen had an extensive collection of handwritten and printed music by contemporary composers.
Concert Royal will play rediscovered gems by English musicians Thomas Arne, James Hook and Stephen Paxton, interspersed with brief extracts from Austen's letters and novels to set the scene and place the music in context.
Concert Royal has been presenting 18th Century music for more than 25 years in the UK, Europe, the US and South America. It was founded in Newcastle in 1974 by John Treherne and Peter Harrison.
Tickets cost £3.50, concessions £2.25 and £1 for season ticket holders.
