POLICE investigating a hit-and-run incident involving a blind man and a person with cerebral palsy have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
Detectives have been disappointed by the public's response since the incident, in Darlington, on November 15.
Gavin Atkins, who is blind, and Philip Stokes were injured crossing Hollyhurst Road, near the town's hospital.
The driver abandoned a red Ford Fiesta XR2 nearby and ran off. After an article appeared in The Northern Echo, just one person has come forward with more information.
A police spokesman said: "We were disappointed with the public appeal for help.
"Samples have been taken from the vehicle involved and sent to forensics.
"We are awaiting the results of this and we are hopeful that it may provide pointers on the person responsible.
"We would appeal for anyone who has any more information on the incident, or who witnessed it, to contact us."
Mr Stokes, secretary of St Matthew's and St Luke's Church, in Brinkburn Road, Darlington, is still in hospital, with a broken leg.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01325) 361351.
