Two men had to have hospital treatment after they were the victims of an unprovoked attack.
The men aged 23 and 25, both from South Bank, had come out of Bianco's Pizza Shop on the High Street in Normanby at around 11pm to 11.30pm on Friday November 23.
They were then set upon by a group of men and were both seriously injured and had to be taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital for treatment.
One suffered two dislocated shoulders and bruises to his eye. The other had deep internal cuts to his mouth. Both needed surgery, but were released the next day.
PC Nick Edgar, from South Bank Police, said: "This was an unprovoked and vicious attack which has left these two men with severe injuries.
"The assault took place in a busy location and I am eager for any witnesses to come forward."
There are no descriptions available of the attackers, but passers-by did try to help the men and police believe they may hold vital information.
Anyone who has any information is asked to contact South Bank Police Station on (01642) 301926.
