ONE of the National Trust's most treasured sites will be lit up this Christmas and resounding to seasonal music.
The World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, will be welcoming back triple harpist Fiona-Katie Roberts, a regular performer at the estate.
She will be entertaining crowds at the abbey every Sunday in the run-up to Christmas. The estate will also be floodlit every Saturday and Sunday until December 23, from 3.30pm to 5pm.
On Saturdays, local musician Carolyn Brown will be playing popular classics from the 1930s to the 1980s on keyboard. It will be the first time she has performed at Fountains, where the hall has been decorated with winter foliage collected from the estate.
Helen Clarke, assistant events officer, said: "This Christmas really will be special at Fountains. We want to offer a traditional family day out."
The estate is open daily, except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Fridays, in November, December and January
