CHRISTMAS is coming and the geese may be getting fat - but Caspar the roly-poly cat is getting slimmer.
The five-year-old tom has tucked into too many treats in the past and is on a diet.
But staff at the Blue Cross animal adoption centre, near Thirsk, hope their cats and dogs will receive some festive food. They have launched an appeal for treats for dozens of unwanted animals.
They have decorated the centre and are asking people to spare a few pennies.
"Caspar certainly doesn't need any extra food because of his strict diet," said centre manager Wendy Ellison.
"But we would really appreciate any treats and toys local people could give us so the cats and dogs can enjoy the season like the rest of us."
Anyone who would like to donate tinned food, chewy treats or toys for the animals can take them to the centre at Parklands, Station Road, Topcliffe, Thirsk.
Telephone the centre on (01845) 577759 for more details.
