Worthington CIU Winter League - Old Shildon held on to their six points lead at the top of the First Division when they won by the odd point at Brandon.

The home side had wins from Kevin Sample and Brian Graham, whilst the visitors went to victory with wins from Stephen Bennett, Michael Pratt and Charlie Blake.

Shotton Palms moved into second place following a very good odd point win over their hosts at Fishburn A. The home side had wins from John Cater with a 60 break and Charlie Hirst. Whilst Jimmy Evans, Dave Swindle and John Armstrong took the Palms to victory.

Spennymoor A went down by the odd point at Newton Aycliffe but still manage to share the second spot with Shotton Palms, who have a match in hand. Newton Aycliffe had wins from Ritchie Young, Bill Barrigan and Michael Hewitt, whilst John Wilson and Paul Biddle, with a 34 break, took points for the Moors.

Willington pulled off their best win of the season when they only dropped one point to the visiting Wheatley Hill A. The home side took the first four points when Gordon Parkin, Jeremy Martin, Tom Parkin and Arthur Goldsborough won. However the Hill saved the whitewash when Dennis Clish took the final frame.

Glyn Toas gave Ferryhill a great start at home to Witton Gilbert with runs of 24, 16 and 16 but then the visitors took over to take the remaining points through John Rooney senior, Ian Renwick, John Rooney junior and Willis Joynes.

Langley Park moved back to share the leadership of the Second Division when they only dropped one point in a tight match at Newhouse. The home side went ahead when John Maddox took the first frame. However the Park took over and won the remainder through Ray Coates, Kevin Keers, Paul Morgan and Stephen Coates, although two went to the black and another to the pink.

Sherburn Village share the Second Division top spot after they beat the visiting Hunwick A. The home side had wins from Michael Crisp, John Bower and Peter McGowan, whilst Dave Rusby and Paul Atkinson replied.

Crowtrees moved up one point behind the leaders after they came through to an odd point win in the decider at Wheatley Hill B. Sonny Hann and Keith McLauchlan put Crowtrees ahead but Dave Blyth and Tony Ellison levelled the match. In the decider Crowtrees Peter Laverick maintained his good form by beating Jock Frost. The Wheatley Hill side now share the second place with Crowtrees.

Spennymoor B moved two points behind the joint second placed teams when they recovered from being two down at home to Wingate. Dave Hammond and Dave Carter moved Wingate ahead but Wayne Parry and Stuart Ball levelled. In the decider the Moors Alan Rowell beat Ray Robson.

Steven Armstrong took the first point for Belmont on their trip to Stanley Central but after that the home side took over. The Central's best win of the season came when Ian Johnson, Walter Cornell, Jim Dufton and John Johnson won their frames.

West Auckland maintained their unbeaten run in the Third Division, which they lead by one point with a game in hand, after they beat the visiting Crook Belle Vue, whose only point came from Eric Lockerbie. West's winners, who maintained their average of four points per match, were Andrew Dent, Paul Vickers, Andrew Sugden and David Geraty.

Bearpark stayed in touch with West Auckland when they only dropped one point to the visiting Leeholme A, who had Barry Shaw as their only winner. The home points came from Alex Donaldson, David Jackson with a 30 break, Antony Cooper and Shaun Easter.

Sacriston moved into third place when they whitewashed their hosts at Leeholme B with wins from Steven Bradley, Mark Brown, Willy Nixon, Jimmy Evans and Alan Richardson.

Coundon edged their way up the table after they only dropped one point to the visiting Tow Law. Frank Nicholson, Willy Shoulder, Graham Golbourne and Dennis Payne won for the home side with Tommy Williams taking the only point for the Lawyers.

Fishburn B dropped out of the top three when they went down in the decider at Durham City, who never managed the lead until that point. Alan Wilson put the visitors ahead with Gary Ward levelling. George Whitelock restored Fishburn's lead only to see Michael Pratt equalise. In the decider Durham's Barry Stoddart beat Keith Binks.

l The last chance for any players to register for the Referees Course will be at the league meeting in Meadowfield Club on Thursday, November 29 (7.30pm). Already 12 players have joined the course, which will be run early in the New Year.
