EUROPE'S largest British Army garrison seems certain to become even bigger.
Richmondshire District Council is among those who have been consulted on the construction of a barrack block at Catterick Garrison - and its seems unlikely to protest.
The two-storey, 48-bed unit is proposed at Vimy Barracks off Scotton Road.
Negotiations are under way with North Yorkshire County Council over a wider access road at the entrance to the complex.
However, the new building is not expected to generate additional traffic as the soldiers using it would be relocated from elsewhere in the barracks.
Richmondshire's planning officers have some concerns over the proximity of other buildings in the area.
If they can be overcome, they are recommending councillors raise no objections to the scheme when they meet in Richmond on Tuesday.
