FIVE Durham schools are celebrating after winning computers in a council-run competition.

Durham City Council asked schools to design an environmental improvement project in a competition to promote its Lifestyle roadshows.

The judges decided that the most original and creative schemes were devised by Finchale, Sherburn Village, St Patrick's and Brancepeth primary schools and Bowburn Junior School.

There was also a competition for mountain bikes and the winners were Madeline banks, six, of Newton Hall; Jane Hall, nine, of Bowburn; Lorna Thornborrow, ten, of Durham; Craig Thexton, ten, of Sherburn; Martin Johnston, ten, of Langley Park; and Catherine Davies, ten, of Gilesgate.

Sainsbury's shopping vouchers worth £100 were won by Mary Marsden, of Framwellgate Moor; Emma Richardson, of Coxhoe; Elizabeth Oates, of Meadowfield; Peter Chapman, of Sherburn Village; Christopher Gill, of Ushaw Moor; and Kay Littlefair, of Sherburn Village.

The Lifestyle roadshows toured the city's sports centres promoting the council's environmental and leisure services.
