LOCAL companies are being invited to sponsor Christmas tree lights at a Darlington country club.

Mary Butterwick, founder of the Butterwick Children's Hospice, in Stockton, will switch on the lights on the tree at the Hall Garth Golf and Country Club, at Coatham Mundeville, on Wednesday.

All proceeds from the sponsored lights will go to the hospice, which provides care to families of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

Each company that sponsors a light will have its own star on the tree, with the firm's name inscribed on it.

The hospice provides its care in a way which promotes joy and happiness for the patients, however, the cost of that service amounts to about £500,000 a year which needs to be generated through events such as the light sponsorship.

Anybody who would like to sponsor a light should contact the meeting and events manager, Linda Baker, at the club, telephone (01325) 300400.
