A LUCKY North-East shopper has stumbled upon what could be the region's best bargain.
The woman visited Wilkinson's store, in Darlington, to buy a bulb bowl and was stunned to find that she had been given a discount of nearly 95 per cent.
The bowl was originally priced at £1.89 but, thanks to the reduction, the shopper took it home for just 2p.
The store, in East Street, made the markdown to try to sell remaining stock from a summer gardening line.
A spokeswoman for the garden and home retailer said: "The company is always looking to pass on any special offers to our customers - and this is an example of the type of fantastic bargain that our customers may find from time to time in our stores."
Retail analyst John Dickinson, of Newcastle firm Wise Speke, said: "I do not think it is typical of stores to have such a high discount.
"It appears they don't want to hoard the summer stock so have made it a low value item to get rid of it."
