NORTH-EAST writer Terry Deary is celebrating after his book Rotten Romans, part of the Horrible Histories series, was voted Best Factbook of All Time by a BBC1 children's programme.
The author, who lives near Stanley, received his award during a broadcast of Blue Peter on Sunday.
He said: "This award means a lot to me because it wasn't voted for by a panel of adults. It was voted for by young readers in libraries across Britain.''
Fans of the Horrible Histories can catch the author's Horrible Christmas Roadshow on Saturday, December 15 at the DLI, formerly the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, in Aykley Heads, Durham City.
The shows will take place at 11am and 1pm and there are 90 tickets available for each performance. They cost £3.50, or £2.25 for concessions, and £1 for DLI season ticket holders.
Tickets are available in advance by calling 0191-384 2214
