POLICE presence in Stockton is being increased up until Christmas, to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

High visibility patrols using specialist departments, mounted sections and district licensing will be used in the Fairfield and Hartburn areas.

Gangs of youths will be targeted in the campaign, named Operation Greensbeck 2.

Co-ordinating officer, Acting Sergeant Paul Davison, said: "As part of Stockton district's objectives to reduce reported incidents of anti-social behaviour and increase public reassurance we are stepping up high-visibility patrols.

"We will be targeting known hot-spot areas, dealing firmly with identified offenders and targeting adults who are believed to be buying alcohol from off-licences and selling it to under-age youths, with a view to prosecuting them.
