COUNCIL tenants whose homes are due for a £1.4m makeover are being given a say on how their estate will look.
Mown Meadows, Crook, is the first in the Wear Valley district to benefit from a £1.9m a year grant from the Government's Major Repairs Allowance.
About 220 properties are being given a facelift and residents can choose from new doors, windows and gas heating appliances, which are going on display in the Bankfoot Grove Community Centre from 10am to 3.30pm, on Thursday, December 13.
Council leader Olive Brown, and estate councillors Eddie Murphy and Eddie Tomlinson, welcomed the improvements.
Coun Brown said: "Residents and the council have worked very well together. In this day and age, we should be offering people as much choice as possible."
The balance of the allowance is being spent on smaller housing projects. The council expects to continue its improvement programme with a further grant next year
