GENEROUS shoppers have donated sackfuls of presents already this year in a Christmas charity drive at the MetroCentre.
The Salvation Army's "Light Up a Child's Life" Christmas appeal was launched last month at the Gateshead shopping complex.
Visitors are asked to make an extra purchase on behalf of an under privileged child while doing their Christmas shopping at the centre.
All toys and gifts can be left in the designated area in the Town Square, near the House of Fraser store.
Captain David Brown, of the Salvation Army, said he was delighted to see the number and quality of presents so far donated.
"There has been a really high standard of gifts donated which means there are going to be some very happy children who will be experiencing a special Christmas, thanks to the generosity of MetroCentre shoppers."
Last year's appeal helped 25,000 children by providing gifts of toys, food and clothing.
The "Light Up a Child's Life" appeal continues at the MetroCentre until Christmas Eve
