A SCHEME that introduces people to the world of computers is being extended.
The Integrated Access Via IT (information technology) project has operated in East Durham for the past two years.
Now, after winning extra funding, it is expanding into towns and villages in Derwentside.
The scheme aims to bring IT within the reach of individuals, community groups and organisations.
It gives advice, support and training in courses on how to use computer programmes, on producing newsletters and setting up websites.
The scheme, which can provide server space for web pages and video conferencing links to similar groups, also aims to give access to disabled users and offer online careers advice.
It is run by Durham County Council's arts libraries and museums department, the careers service, as well as County Durham Online, and is funded by the Government's Single Regeneration Budget and administered by the regional development agency OneNorth-East.
The areas of Derwentside to be targeted by the project are Consett, Stanley, Lanchester and Annfield Plain.
For more information, including basic computer taster sessions, call Sheila Forster or Vivienne Dryden, on 0191-383 4943.
