CARL Cort has set his sights on resurrecting his Newcastle United career - with the full backing of Magpies boss Bobby Robson.
It was feared the £7million hitman would miss the rest of the season but after undergoing knee ligament surgery in America he could be back as early as February.
The 24-year-old has endured a torrid time on Tyneside since his move from Wimbledon 18 months ago, suffering a number of injuries which have so far prevented him from making any real impact at St James' Park.
Robson, who will be boosted by the return of Kieron Dyer for tomorrow's trip to Ipswich, is confident Cort can follow the example shown by several of his teammates, who have all bounced back from serious injury.
Robson said: "We have players at the club like Alan Shearer, Craig Bellamy and Nikos Dabizas who have had major knee surgery and all come back strongly for it."
"Carl's problem is not as serious as that, he can look to them to help his recovery and he can take heart from seeing Shearer in action."
