SANTA'S sleigh has started its rounds of Darlington after a last-minute MOT.

The Darlington Bondgate Round Table tours the town and outlying villages every Christmas to raise funds for local charities.

Maintenance work was needed on the sleigh before this year's run.

The work, including tests on the loudspeaker system, was done at Sherwood's in the town, where business director Alasdair MacConachie is a stalwart of the round table.

Mr MacConachie said: "Of course, like all vehicles, Santa's sleigh benefits from a pre-winter check up."

The round table sleigh will be doing its rounds from Sunday to Thursday each week in the run-up to Christmas, excluding Christmas Eve.

There will also be a special day of rounds in the town centre on Saturday, December 22.
