SPORTING youngsters are cock-a-hoop after slam-dunking their way to success.

Members of the year ten basketball team at Thirsk School have proved they are the masters of the court by taking the honours in the Harrogate and Ripon Area Schools Trophy.

The team beat rivals from Bedale, Northallerton College and Stokesley to reach the final, where they defeated St Francis Xavier School, from Richmond, 18 to 5.

Head of PE Matt Messias said: "The team has really come on in the three years we have been training together."

The winning squad was made up of Joss Cole, Martin Winspear, Richard Barker, Greg Watson, Harry Casey, Peter Gray, Mark Karvounis, Tommy Hunter and Chris Brough.
