A TEENAGE heroin addict who stole his grandfather's Visa card and withdrew £2,500 for drugs was locked up for 18 months yesterday.
David Hornby, 18, of Stockton, was off drugs for the first time in years, said Robin Denny, defending.
Hornby ran up a drugs debt when he stole his grandfather's wallet and burgled a friend's house.
Property worth £3,000 was taken, but Hornby said he stole just a TV and video recorder, Teesside Crown Court heard.
Hornby, of Londonderry Road, was sentenced to 18 months in youth custody after he pleaded guilty to obtaining money by deception, burglary and shoplifting, in July.
Judge Peter Bowers said: "I think that if you can get yourself sorted out there is a chance that we won't see much of you in future.
