AN inquest was opened and adjourned yesterday into the death of a 14-year-old boy who died earlier this month after a car accident.
Promising footballer Daniel Stewart, of Staindale, Thornaby, Teesside, suffered multiple injuries when he was knocked over while crossing Mitchell Road, in Thornaby, on November 26.
The Thornaby Community School pupil went into a coma and died in Middlesbrough General Hospital on December 1 following a decision to turn off his life support equipment.
A minute's silence was held at Hartlepool United FC's match at home against Luton on Saturday as a tribute to the football-mad youngster, who was a member of Hartlepool's under-14 centre of excellence side.
The inquest, at Middlesbrough Coroner's Court, heard evidence of identification from Daniel's mother Sharon Stewart, 38.
