A spectacular laser show will light up the skies of an historic market town tonight.
The show will be the highlight of Barnard Castle's first ever Christmas Festival, which will see lasers played across the walls of the town's medieval castle.
The main light show will take place on Saturday, but organisers will hold a special preview from 6pm onwards this evening to give people a taste of what to expect.
Other events taking place in Barnard Castle on Saturday include the last farmers' market of the year, which will also feature a prize draw in aid of charity.
There will also be a children's lantern procession before the main laser show is held on Scar Top during the evening.
The festival has been jointly organised by Teesdale Marketing and Barnard Castle Town Council.
Barnard Castle Mayor, Margaret Hamilton, said: "After a difficult year, the town council is delighted that an effective partnership with Teesdale Marketing has produced a festival which incorporates true community spirit and enjoyment for all ages."
