STUDENTS in Darlington donned fancy dress for a crazy obstacle race to raise money for needy families.
The teenagers from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College organised the event to raise money for the Darlington Giving Tree Appeal, which aims to provide Christmas presents for those people in the town who cannot afford them.
Michael Welsh, 17, is studying leisure and physical education at the college and as part of his Community Sports Leaders Award has to organise an event, including addressing all health and safety aspects.
"Because we had to organise something, we thought it would be good to do it and raise money for the Giving Tree," he said.
"We had six teams taking part and we raised about £90. It was really good fun. Now we are going to spend the money on presents for the Giving Tree, which will be great."
Christmas shoppers are invited to buy an extra gift for the Giving Tree Appeal.
The gifts are being collected at The Northern Echo offices and Alpha Radio, in Darlington, and Asda stores in Spennymoor and Darlington.
Social services will distribute the gifts to families in Darlington for Christmas.
