FOUR men have been accused of causing an affray at a flat in Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, on October 20, involving a Samurai sword, a claw hammer and a sheaf knife.

Three of the men, Adam Fennings, 26, and Gary Wilson, 35, both of Oakdale Avenue, Harrogate, and Alan Winterburn, 47, of Wentworth Close, Starbeck, Harrogate, were told by the town's magistrates the case would be tried by a judge and jury at York Crown Court. They were bailed until February 8. A fourth man, Geoffrey Morris, 36, of Knaresborough Road, Harrogate,was said to be at a funeral in London. His case was adjourned until January 7. He is also facing two charges of assault and one of possession of a sword.

Street market: More than 100 traders will descend on Pickering tomorrow for a street market. Many local businesses will also be throwing open their doors for the festive event.

Crossing closure: Motorists in the Scarborough area are being warned about a series of closures at Muston level crossing for essential track maintenance work from Monday to Friday.

BMX concerns: Easingwold Town Council has deferred a decision on whether to allow BMX riders to have full use of land at Millfields.

Panto date: A pantomime version of the Nativity play will be performed in the market hall in Richmond next Saturday and Sunday. Performances start at 7pm and admission is free.

Give blood: A blood donor session will be held at the nurses' recreation hall, at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, on Wednesday, from 2pm to 7pm.

Prosecution plea: Thirsk Town Council is pressing for fly-tippers to be prosecuted. Hambleton District Council will be asked to help in stopping people dumping unwanted household goods.

Carol concert: Leyburn ladies' choir is giving a carol concert at the town's Methodist hall on Tuesday, at 7.30pm. There will be a collection in aid of Hospice Homecare.

Concert date: Aysgarth choral society presents its annual charity concert at Thornton Rust Institute on Tuesday, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3.50 and are available at the door.

Memorial repairs: Masham Town Council hopes to have the refurbishment of the war memorial completed within six months, at a cost of £2,485.
