Students at Durham Sixth Form College decided to raise the cash for Newcastle Freeman Hospital's liver transplant unit when they heard fellow sixth-former Laura Fairlamb needed a transplant operation.
Laura successfully underwent the operation and she was on hand on Wednesday to help present the cheque to representatives from the Freeman.
