A teenage girl suffered serious head injuries when she stepped into the path of a car.
The incident happened as the 16-year-old, from Bearpark, near Durham, was crossing Toll House Road, Durham, at the west end of the bridge over the river Browney.
She was struck by a Ford Sierra being driven by a 34-year-old Durham man. The girl was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham, where she is being detained, and her condition is described as non life threatening.
Anyone who witnessed the accident, at 8pm on Saturday, should ring Durham police on 0191-3864929.
