A PLAQUE made by one of the region's most famous companies has gone under the hammer for a world record sum.
The 21in circular plaque, crafted by Tyneside company Maling, sold for £7,590 at auctioneer Anderson and Garland, Newcastle.
The piece was made to show off the company's talents at the 1929 North-East Coast Exhibition. The plaque, decorated with Japanese figures and trees, has been on loan to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, for 12 years.
Pottery specialist Nick Stawart said: "The North-East Coast Exhibition was intended as a showcase for local industries. It was to prove one of the greatest shows ever to take place in Newcastle.
