THE Darlington Giving Tree appeal has brought a massive response from the public, with gifts coming from across the region.
The appeal, which is supported by The Northern Echo, is run every year and encourages the public to buy an extra Christmas present for less fortunate people during the festive period.
Shoppers have been delivering hundreds of gifts to the offices of The Northern Echo and Alpha Radio, in Darlington, and Asda stores in Darlington and Spennymoor.
Today is the last day that people can deliver gifts for the appeal, before they are collected to be wrapped and distributed to needy people in time for Christmas.
Pictured left with some of the Giving Tree Appeal gifts is The Northern Echo's reporter Richard Barker, who raised £237 for the appeal by joining a sponsored abseil.
He said: "The support we have received from the public has been overwhelming and I'm sure everyone involved would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated a gift.
"There is still time to buy an extra present and make somebody's Christmas that little bit happier."
