WOODLAND characters and scenes from the Charles Dickens ghost story A Christmas Carol are the inspiration for a festive fantasy land created for visitors to Raby Castle.
Families are being invited to enjoy the spirit of Christmas at the castle, near Staindrop, by visiting Santa's Grotto.
The Christmas trail leads through a twisting avenue of trees, featuring woodland creatures and Victorian streets, to take visitors to Santa's Grotto, where he will be waiting in his rocking chair.
Adults can also enjoy the castle's Christmas shop and tearooms, where staff will be dressed in Victorian costume.
Santa's Grotto will be open until Sunday, on week days from 3.30pm to 8.30pm, and next weekend from 10am to 5pm.
The Christmas shop will be open from 9.30am to 8.30pm on week days, and from, 9.30am to 5.30pm at weekends.
