A burglar who was desperate to feed his £60-a-day heroin habit was jailed for 18 months yesterday.
Keith Wills, 21, used his heroin-heating spoon to force open a window at a neighbour's flat, said Sarah Farnsworth, prosecuting.
He was spotted by a passer-by and police caught him still inside after he had stacked up property ready to leave.
It was a spur-of-the-moment crime after he saw a delivery man get no response from the neighbour, said Nigel Soppitt, defending.
Wills, of Culloden Way, Billingham, Teesside, pleaded guilty to the burglary. While a remand prisoner, he sought help to beat his addiction, Teesside Crown Court heard.
