A PROPOSAL to place a youth shelter on the outskirts of the Dean Bank area of Ferryhill has been rejected by councillors.
Ferryhill Town Council and Sedgefield Borough Council are hoping to install a youth shelter on the Dean Bank estate. in an effort to reduce anti-social behaviour.
A proposal to place one at the rear of Kelvin Street was rejected by members of the Dean Bank Residents' Association for fear it could add to the local drug problem and increase anti-social behaviour.
The negative comments forced the abandonment of that location.
An alternative site on land to the west of Dean and Chapter Industrial Estate has also been suggested. The shelter could also include a basketball court and five-a-side area, but the town council has decided that the area is too far away from the estate and have rejected the site.
