A FORMER miner and social worker has been named Sedgefield Village's Citizen of the Year.
Allan Smart was named the winner at the civic wine and cheese evening in the Parish Hall, on Friday.
The award was presented by Basil Watson, treasurer of sponsors Sedgefield Rotary Club.
Mr Smart is a founder member of Sedgefield Community Association. He was also treasurer for a time and one of the longest-serving members of the management committee.
He is also a member of the bar committee and since it opened in 1975 he has carried out one night a week bar duty.
Mr Smart is also closely associated with Sedgefield Medieval Fair, being assistant treasurer after being treasurer for 15 years. He is also associated with Sedgefield Players, being treasurer at one time. He was also secretary of the Sedgefield Drama Festival as well as being involved as a case worker with the Soldiers' Sailors' and Airmen's Families' Association, and other service organisations.
