A construction project that will bring indoor tennis facilities to North Yorkshire has got under way.
An £11m tennis centre is being developed in York which will create 100 jobs and is expected to end up with more than 5,000 members.
The 105,000sq ft, two-storey complex, in Hull Road, is expected to open next October and will boast six indoor and five outdoor tennis courts, three squash and four badminton courts.
There will also be a basketball court, indoor and outdoor pools, a restaurant, gym, fitness centre, aerobic studio, hair and beauty salon and a children's mini-cinema.
Former tennis star David Lloyd's company, Next Generation, was given the go-ahead for the scheme last year. The firm is in partnership with York St John College over the centre.
David Lloyd's son, Scott, who is managing director of the firm, said: "When our new centre opens the people of York and district will have the chance to team unbeatable facilities with the expertise of professional sportsmen and women, bringing something truly unique to the city."
