A RADIO station has given away season tickets to five lucky football fans.

Metro Radio, in conjunction with Sunderland Football Club, gave part season tickets, covering the 2001/2 season's remaining nine home games at the Stadium of Light, to breakfast show listeners.

To win them, the five fans had to track down three "Christmas Carols" dressed as Mrs Santa, at various locations, including Durham market, Seaburn seafront, the MetroCentre, the Angel of the North and the Stadium of Light.

They were presented with a pair of adult and child part-season tickets in time for the Aston Villa match, on New Year's Day.

Breakfast show host Brian Moore said: "We have genuinely brought some Christmas cheer into the lives of five North-East families.

"It was great fun sending people running round the region and hats off to the Christmas Carol girls for braving the elements in their outfits."

Winner Darren Drinkald, from Sunderland, said: "I've got four kids, so it will be great to take them along to the games and experience the famous Stadium of Light atmosphere with them."

The other winners were Jeff Bladen, from Blyth, Northumberland, Geoff Kelly, from Gateshead, Nigel Seymour, from Bishop Auckland, County Durham, and Tony Davies, from Seaham, east Durham.
