THE Mayor of Middlesbrough, Councillor Patricia Walker, has given a thank you to the widow of a man who raised thousands of pounds for charity.
John Lloyd died suddenly earlier this year after a lifetime spent raising cash for good causes. Shortly before he died he had raised £500 but had not decided where to send it.
His family pledged the money to the mayor's charity fund, along with £300 raised by the St Francis' Club, in Acklam.
Yesterday, Coun Walker invited his widow Maureen to the Mayor's Parlour to thank her for the cash, which will go to the Parkinson's Disease Society and the Neo-natal Abstinence Syndrome organisation.
She said: "This was an extremely generous gesture and together with the money raised by the club has provided a big boost to the charity fund.
"I certainly could not let it pass without thanking Mrs Lloyd for her generosity and hard work, which is typical of so many people in our community."
