A GROUP of nursery children dressed up in Victorian costume to visit a castle's Christmas grotto.
Thirty-six youngsters from the Small World Nursery, in Staindrop, dressed up in home-made costumes for their visit to Raby Castle.
Staff at the castle also wore Victorian costume for the day.
Lynne Linsley, manager of the nursery, said: "We heard that Raby Castle was taking Victorian Times as the theme for its festive grotto, so we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to capitalise on what the children have been learning about Christmas through the ages."
An area of the nursery has been transformed into a Victorian playroom to encourage the youngsters to learn about what life was like in times past.
