KIND-HEARTED soldiers helped a teenager's dream come true yesterday, putting him on the road to extra mobility.
Cerebral palsy sufferer Vincent Gordon, 16, was one of a number of pupils from Wensleydale School, at Leyburn, who recently attended a personal assessment day at Marne Barracks, Catterick.
While there he got to know soldiers from 120 Army Youth Team, who later decided to buy their new-found friend a trike which was specially adapted.
Originally they planned to raise the cash by climbing the equivalent of the height of Mount Everest using an indoor climbing wall.
However, that had to be cancelled at the last minute and they instead set to raising funds through a series of events, including discos.
The Abbey National, in Darlington, came up with 20 per cent of the cost and this week, to Vincent's surprise, he was presented with his new trike at a school assembly. "He was completely taken aback and had no idea what was coming," said team leader Captain Dougie Birnie.
"We were only too pleased to do what we could to help him."
