Help wanted for homeless

Darlington Churches Together is looking for people to spare a night a month to help the homeless. The group wants to turn church halls into emergency accommodation for those sleeping rough and needs help moving beds, cooking and running the halls.

BAG SNATCHED: A woman waiting at a bus stop in Pease Way, Newton Aycliffe, had her black leather patchwork handbag containing £150 stolen at 4.20pm on Thursday.

WINDOW SMASHED: A brick was thrown through the kitchen window of a house in Stargate Close, Newton Aycliffe, between 9.30pm and 9.50pm on Thursday.

HOLES FILLED: Holes in Dean Road, Beech Crescent and Lime Road, Ferryhill, have been repaired at a cost of £531, paid for by Sedgefield Borough Council's tidy estates and community involvement initiative.

BLOOD DONORS: Anyone wishing to give blood can do so at Spennymoor Leisure Centre on Friday, January 4, from 3pm to 6.45pm, or at the church/masonic hall, Wolsingham, from 3.15pm to 7pm on Tuesday, January 15.

FESTIVE CONCERT: The Ravenswood Singers and Opera Live are presenting the Magical Sounds of Christmas at Bishop Auckland Town Hall tonight, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5, or £4 for concessions.
